Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
The mission of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to implement the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) and to mitigate the effects of a release or spill of natural or man-made hazardous materials through developing response plans, including Preparedness, Notification, and Warning, as well as Public Protective Measures.
On October 17, 1986, in response to concerns for safety procedures related to chemical facilities, the United States Congress enacted the "Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act" (EPCRA), also known as Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA). The Act has had a far-reaching influence on issues related to hazardous materials.
