Announcement: The Greenbrier County Homeland Security & EM and the Greenbrier County LEPC will be holding a Preparedness Fair on September 16th, 2017 at the Blue Ribbon Center on the WV State Fairgrounds. The Preparedness Fair will be from 10am till 3pm. Set up will be 9am till 10am. Please share this information. If any Agencies or organization is interested in setting up please contact Al Whitaker at 304-646-5623 or al.whitaker@greenbriercountyema.net. These Preparedness Fairs are in conjunction with September being National Preparedness month. We will be holding another Preparedness Fair in the Meadow River Valley area on September 23rd, 2017 at the Rainelle Armory.

Summary information:
February 1, 2017 - Beginning today, Frontier, in partnership with INdigital, working with Greenbrier County 9-1-1 announced that public safety has taken a major step forward.
Through a strong, coordinated approach to public safety, the county joins local 9-1-1 centers across the nation in the use of text for 9-1-1.
The launch will allow the public to directly access to 9-1-1 through text messaging from their wireless handset. While this is the basic text TO 9-1-1, Greenbrier County 911 also has the ability to initiate a text FROM 9-1-1.
Text FROM 9-1-1 allows the Greenbrier County 911 dispatchers to reach the public for common issues such as 9-1-1 hang ups and accidental calls.
INdigital of Fort Wayne, Indiana designed, built and operate the Texty platform, which provides service to 9-1-1 agencies throughout the country.
Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint have voluntarily committed that they will provide service.
As of today services are available from the following carriers, AT&T, Verizon and US Cellular.
We are asking that you only use the Text to 911 in an emergency when you can’t get signal strength to make a call or if making a voice call would put you in danger.



 How to contact 911

If you use a wireless phone or other type of mobile device, make sure to do the following in an emergency:

Always contact 911 by making a voice call, if you can.
If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech disabled, and text-to-911 is not available, use a TTY or a telecommunications relay service, if possible.
Remember that in most cases you cannot reach 911 by sending a text message.

Bounce-back messages

If you attempt to send a text to 911 where the service is not yet available, FCC rules require all wireless carriers and other text messaging providers to send an automatic "bounce-back" message that will advise you to contact emergency services by another means, such as making a voice call or using telecommunications relay service (for persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability). Bounce-back messages are intended to minimize your risk of mistakenly believing that a text to 911 has been transmitted to an emergency call center.
